The Mountain After 5: Stay for the Sunset at Greek Peak

There’s a version of Greek Peak you don’t really get to know until later in the day.
The sun starts dropping behind the hills. The temperature eases off. The mountain gets a little quieter. And suddenly, that trail you passed earlier, that chairlift you rode in the afternoon, or that view from the top feels completely different.
Around here, that’s one of my favorite times to be on the mountain.
Summer days at Greek Peak can be packed with activity, but the evenings have their own kind of energy. They’re slower. Warmer. A little more relaxed.
And lately, we’ve been finding more ways to make the most of them.
A Different View From the Chairlift
There’s something funny about riding a chairlift in the summer.
During ski season, you’re usually thinking about the run ahead of you. In August, there’s no rush.
You can sit back, look across the mountain and actually take in the view.
That’s what makes an evening SkyTour ride feel so different. As the sun starts to settle lower in the sky, the whole mountain changes color. The greens get warmer, the shadows stretch a little farther, and for a few minutes everything seems to slow down.
It’s a simple experience, but those are often the ones you remember.

Golden Hour With a Little More Speed
Of course, not everyone comes to Greek Peak to sit still.
There’s also something pretty great about being on a zipline as the day starts winding down.
The trees look different in evening light. The air cools off. And when you’re flying across the mountain, you get a view that’s hard to appreciate from the ground.
Sunset Zip & Sip takes that familiar Greek Peak adventure and gives it a completely different personality.
Same mountain. Different hour. Whole different experience.

Taking the Long Way Around
Then there are the parts of Greek Peak you don’t necessarily see from the base area.
That’s where a sunset UTV ride comes in.
You head away from the busy parts of the resort, through rougher mountain terrain and toward overlooks where the view opens up.
Someone else handles the driving. You get to look around.
And when the timing is right, you end up standing on the mountain watching the last light of the day move across the hills. That’s a pretty good place to be.

Then There’s What Happens Afterward
One of the things I like most about these evenings is that nothing has to end the second the activity does.
Maybe you head over to Trax for a drink. Maybe you grab dinner and stay out on the deck a little longer. Maybe you’re staying at Hope Lake Lodge and realize you have absolutely nowhere you need to be.
That’s when a day at Greek Peak starts feeling less like a day trip and more like a getaway. There’s no schedule to beat. No need to squeeze in one more thing. You can just enjoy where you are.
One More Thing Before You Go
Here’s something I’ve learned after spending a lot of time around this mountain:
Don’t leave five minutes before the good part.
Stick around.
Let the temperature drop a little. Watch the light move across the hills. Find yourself a good spot, grab something cold and see what the sky decides to do.
You don’t need an itinerary for that part. And when the sun finally disappears behind the mountain, you’ll understand why some of us think Greek Peak can get pretty interesting after 5.
